Everything about my life has been pretty normal working as a forensic autopsy technician. Until the day I woke up with a mysterious symbol tattooed on my arm.
Suddenly normal no longer existed. The barrier between Earth and a world called Under, dissolved...
Now I’m trapped with dozens of other people. Held prisoner by the creators of myths and legends, where the realm is ruled by two masked kings who want to turn us into creatures like them.
But even though I didn’t choose to be here, this new world manages to pull me deeper, affecting me differently than other humans. Unfortunately King Edu, also known as the King of Flames, notices this and I’m now considered a threat. If I want to survive King Edu and the dangers of Under, I need to escape. The only problem is, there’s another masked king who seems to have an interest in me. Aon, the King of Shadows, wants me here in this world, and he wants me alive.
I just need to figure out why.
I read this book earlier this year, and I was in LOVE!!!!!!! I am excited today to share an extract from the book in the hopes you might want to read it for yourself and fall in love with Lydia…
So the extract….
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come?
How utterly fascinating.
Aon was quite accustomed to dreaming. Especially in this state, trapped as he was between waking and not, as he waited out the years in his crypt. But they were always memories. Never anything new. Never anything real.
This was not a memory.
He was standing in a bedroom. It was small with heavy curtains drawn over the windows to blot out the dim light of the early dawn. He could hear the muffled rumble of machinery and human life. But it was not the bedroom itself that had captured his attention.
No, it was the figure of the young woman asleep in the mundane bed.
Aon sat down on the edge of her mattress, reaching his hand out to touch her cheek. Why he did it, he could not say. For all his thousand years of life, he had never experienced anything quite like this moment.
He rested the tips of the talons of his clawed, metal hand on her cheek. She did not stir. But neither did his touch pass through her as though she, or he, were a phantasm. Curling his finger in toward his palm, he brushed a strand of her blonde hair away from her face to better study her features.
A beautiful young thing. Free of the worries of mortal life in her sleep, her skin was smooth in her repose. Curious. Who was she? How could she have called him here? Was she some kind of magus? No…she did not seem to have the ability to summon him. Certainly not subconsciously. Then, why? And how?
“What do we have here?”
