#AndThatsAWrap of #SHOctober featuring @cookehogan @RyderMiaAuthor @CherylElaine15 @dcbrockwell1 @Jim_Ody_Author @MarkBrownless @NicParkerAuthor @KyleMartinScott

Back in October, we went on a MONTH long adventure into Horror, and spent time with these fab authors! So let us see what everyone thought!

The tour kicked off today – 1st October

Review by twoladiesandabook (IG) (The Nightmare), “A collection of short snappy horror stories. Even though they were only short stories, they still gave off such an eerie vibe!”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Little Deaths) “Little Deaths definitely is a lot of fun with a lot of sizzle. It leaves you wanting more of everything, especially after the clanger at the end.”

Review by snowphiethebookworm  (IG), (Little Deaths) “It did entice me it , it hooked me then left me wanting more ! For a short story it packs a lot in there! I thought it was such a clever book in the way it is written and has been thought out”

2nd October

Extract at b for bookreview, (The Nightmare) “The receiver was grabbed from my hand and whipped across my face. I swayed and fell against the sideboard. I could hear the tiny voice of the operator as the phone fell to the ground.”

Review by Rajivs Reviews, (The Nightmare), “The author begins the collection with “Always,” with a fascinating character Anna. I thought the author wrote her story well with a surprising climax.”

Review by Bookshine and Readbows, (The Nightmare), “I also really enjoyed the title story, ‘The Nightmare’. The young girl reminds me so much of myself as a child and, if I’m honest, as an adult too –”

3rd October

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB), (Little Deaths) “Its steamy, sexy, shocking, and packs a punch with so few pages.”

Review by twilight_reader (IG), (Little Deaths) “The sex choices was random and built up in an unique way. It was raunchy and seductive even if Nick was part of a deal. I do love how the author writes the characteristics and makes the characters so appealing.”

Review by Sue Loves to Read, (The Nightmare) “I enjoyed them all and I had my favourites. I loved the cover. Spooky.”

4th October

Review by Run Away Irish Girl, (The Nightmare) “Some of these stories were very creepy which gave me the chills that were perfect for reading at night but also not good a night when you have to turn the lights out and walk very fast to bed!”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (The Nightmare) “Margaret Anne let out a cry of her own. How could it be? She listened and there it was again – the cry of a hungry baby, clear as crystal.”

5th October

Review by Run Away Irish Girl (Little Deaths) “I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into when I started this story but I fell in love with it. This story has a very interesting concept with hints of fantasy which I really enjoyed!”

Extract at b for bookreview, (Little Deaths) “There was blood, in some, by the bucketload: even severed limbs and decapitated heads. Others bore the vicious marks of fire; electricity; drowning; even claw-marks and teeth. All were flamboyant deaths. Abe tapped the last one. ‘That one was death by crocodile. Good times.’”

6th October

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB) (The Nightmare) “Each story is great on its own, and doesnt subscribe too much to cliche and the norm, they are slightly different and it makes this book a great read.”

Review by what_doireadnext (IG), (Little Deaths) “This short story was raunchy, intense, disturbing and heavily seductive. I absolutely loved this book and being so short meant I could happily squeeze it in alongside another read.”

7th October

Review by Portable Magic, (The Nightmare) “The Nightmare is a collection of short stories that will definitely prepare you for Halloween! The writing in each one is simply brilliant and I loved the way that Hogan built the creepy atmosphere that made me feel unsettled throughout each story. “

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (The Nightmare) “I hit The Nightmare, and I must admit I had to put the lights on, and I was looking over my shoulder when I was walking around the house doing my normal evening checks. In this story, it was everything I use to do as a kid AND ok, sometimes I still do as an adult! But jeez it took it to another level!”

Review by Rajivs Reviews, (Little Deaths) “The author also manages to steam some pages with the passion that Nick and Jessica share. Considering its size, I thought the author delivered quite a lot in the tale, as there is never a dull moment.”

8th October

Review by ChaosHappinessBookMama, (Hellsleigh) “Horror at its best! Gore, terrified characters, hauntings, abandoned insane asylum, hundred year anniversary of a gruesome massacre of patients and staff. You could not ask for more!”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Hellsleigh)“He has written the type of horror book I didn’t know I needed, the type to give you nightmares and for me, that’s not easy at all! I mean I can’t shift the book out of my head! I think it is going to haunt me for a long time.”

Review by snowphiethebookworm (IG), (The Nightmare) “I absolutely loved reading them , gripping onto my kindle desperate for more of the stories. A truly fantastic author!”

Review by twilight_reader (IG), (The Nightmare) “I really enjoyed the game and I’ve got my eye on you. Don’t read this before you go to bed it most certainly will turn your dreams to nightmares.”

10th October

Extract at b for bookreview, (Hellsleigh) “He could feel his eyes were open; the only thing he could see was blackness, interspersed with shooting, bright white lights. Please, someone kill me, he tried saying.”

Review by Tomes and Tales, “The supernatural elements are eerie and atmospheric, rather than gory and in-your-face. If the adept handling of the horror parts flowed throughout the narrative, Hellsleigh would have been an exceptionally good novel.”

11th October

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Hellsleigh) “A strange scraping noise caught her attention. Craning her neck, looking down at the floor in front of the open doorway, Suzy gasped at an impossible sight: four lengths of what looked like wire snaking their way to her chair, forming S-shapes with their movements.”

Review by snowphiethebookworm (IG), (Hellsleigh) “It isn’t like other horror books out there its unique in the way that it plays with the readers mind and plays out like a film as you read.”

Review by Sue Loves to Read, (Little Deaths) “A brilliant short read. Read in one sitting. Loved it”

12th October

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Little Deaths) “Nick arrived early that evening. As with the second night, he wasn’t there …Then he was. Jessica had been nervous all day; it’s not every day you get killed”

Review by Run Away Irish Girl, (Hellsleigh) “I really enjoyed this book. It gave me a lot of American Horror Story Asylum vibes which I was loving. The opening of this story really intrigued me.”

Review by Rajivs Reviews, (Hellsleigh) “The way the author describes the eerie wards and amps up the horror was terrific. I didn’t know who would survive and who wouldn’t. Moreover, Hellsleigh gave me the creeps. I got shivers as soon as Melanie saw the photos and their state of decay.”

13th October

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB), (Hellsleigh) “Some of the deaths are quite horrific, and its not for the squeamish. There is no cliche in this, its completely unique.”

Review by Sue Loves to Read, (Hellsleigh) “This was a weird and creepy read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the story and most of the characters. A little bit gory too”

15th October

Extract at Portable Magic, (Hellsleigh) “Not knowing what they were waiting for, Suzy’s eyes darted from left to right. They were playing with her, wanting to frighten her even more than she already was. Suzy was more afraid now than ever. “You could let me go,” she whispered.”

Review by twoladiesandabook (IG), (Witch) “The writting was brilliant, set the scene brilliantly, had a perfect vision of the house in my head. Brilliant book, certainly worth a read!”

Review by Books and Me!, (Witch) “I am so glad I read this book with all the lights on and during the daytime!!  Even now I am still wincing at weird noises around the house….. just in case the witch has decided to come and haunt me!

16th October

Extract at b for bookreview, (Witch) “The bar fell almost completely silent, as if they were the sole focus of the place for that evening – the entertainment, or the freakshow. It was disconcerting to have everyone watching them eat.”

Review by twilight_reader (IG) (Hellsleigh) “You don’t have to wait for long for this one to kick in at all. If you aren’t out off by reading detailed brutality this is definitely a good one for you.”

Review by Bookshine and Readbows, (Hellsleigh) “Anyone looking for a robustly shocking paranormal slaughter story should pick this up immediately and prepare for a scare. I am off now to give my brain a good bleaching then cleanse my palate with a sweet romance or ten”

17th October

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB), (Witch) “This is a book I would really love to see made into a film, some of the descriptive writing is so beautiful I could picture myself standing there.”

Review by Jazzy Book Reviews, (The Nightmare) “The Nightmare is a collection of short horror stories that will be sure to thrill and chill you…I think my two favorites in this one were The Game and I’ve Got My Eye on You.”

Review by Sue Loves to Read, (Witch) “Victoria and Gabe and Mikey were my favourite characters. I wasn’t sure about Idris Mal or Carol. I didn’t trust them. The ending surprised me. I do hope there is more to come.”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Witch) “Then the swaying stopped, as if it was hoping Tor would keep talking, so it could dance to the sound of her voice. And then it rushed forward at her, striking her hard, pushing into her and she screamed.”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Witch) “Jumps, chills, and a ruddy good story, just maybe don’t stare at the cover too long… A contender for my book of the year? Hell Yeah…ok poor choice of words there!”

20th October

Extract at Read and Reviewed, (Prey) “The fright that this wasn’t a nightmare, that I was living it, took hold again. With nothing else to do, my mind wandered again. Had I been drugged? Surely not. But why couldn’t I recall anything? I didn’t want to believe it, but it appeared to be the only explanation”

Portable Magic puts Mark in the spotlight as we learn the inspiration behind #Witch, which three people living or dead would he have for dinner, his favourite TV shows and so much more

22nd October

Review by twoladiesandabook (IG), (Little Miss Evil) “I devoured this one in a day! This is the 2nd Jim Ody book I’ve read now. He dosent disappoint! Its very intriguing from the get go and gets better and better as you read on”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Little Miss Evil) “A movement caught his peripheral vision. He whipped his head around as something, or someone, ran out of sight. Little steps. And then he heard giggling. A child-like laugh that taunted him. “Who’s there?” He said sobering up in an instant.”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Prey) “This book was dark and when I say dark, I mean dark. I thought Stitched was brutal, this book sees that line you don’t cross and waved goodbye to it in a convertible. It was a cross between Hunger Games and Hostel and did I mention DARK!!!”

Review by twilight_reader (IG), (Little Miss Evil) “Another perfect read for Halloween giving you the creeps and shivers with a high level intensity of needing to run and escape.”

This is the perfect book to read on the run up to Halloween, just don’t forget to keep the lights on.”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Little Miss Evil) “I look forward to the next instalment to see the fall out from this tale, to enjoy the campsite, less the murders…….oh wait isn’t that why we are going?!”

24th October

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB), (Prey) “The writing is descriptive enough that you can picture the scenes vividly but on this occasion I would like a wire brush and some bleach to get rid. This will stick with me for some time.”

Extract at Jazzy Book Reviews, (Hellsleigh) “If he’d been able to speak, she knew he would tell her to run, to save herself. “Not a chance,” she told herself out loud. They would both leave this bloody hospital together, or neither of them would; it was that simple.”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Prey) “I was crying, shaking, hyper-ventilating…my instincts were telling me to flee, to get out of there as fast as my legs would take me, but there was nowhere to run to, and I didn’t know who or what I was running from.”

Extract at Jazzy Book Reviews, (Little Miss Evil) “The honest truth was, since that day it had been one of the best things to have happened. It gave the campsite an edge that brought people there. The irony of it. How tragedy could be such a great marketing tool.”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Blackhaven) ““I’m so sorry, child.” He raises the blade above his head. A howl of despair flees from him. It echoes through the forest, a hellish, bitter howl that corrupts the very air. He plunges the blade down.”

27th October

Review by what_doireadnext (IG), (Prey) “This is definitely not for the faint hearted. The graphical detail that goes into this book is incredible! But if like me you can visualise while reading very easily, this might give you a few rough nights afterwards. This novel is DARKER than dark!”

Review by Donna’s Interviews, Reviews and Giveaways (FB), (Little Miss Evil) “Its very tense and there are such very jumpy moments. The ending really ramps up and it ends with a bang.”

Extract at Jazzy Book Reviews, (Witch) “As if in response, as he watched, something began to happen on the surface, a dome slowly forming in the middle of the water – or whatever it was – rising upwards like a red sheet draped over a child’s head at Halloween, the blood running off and splashing back down into the bath, splattering the walls.”

Extract at The Pufflekitteh Reads, (Descent to Hell) “He would do as he had been told and descend down the 666 steps on the sixth day of themonth and the secret door to Hell would become visible and open to him at exactly 6:06 and six seconds in the early morning hours.”

Extract at Portable Magic, (Descent To Hell) “Clarence and Jones had used pieces of an old discarded cupboard to craft a huge sign like the ones greeting you when you arrived at some posh holiday destinations. Review by snowphiethebookworm (IG) (Descent To Hell) “There is a different view of Lucifer in this book compared to others that I have read and I was a refreshing view of him , the way he is with the other characters it’s wonderful to read , and although I didn’t find it that scary to read it was certainly dark!”

Review by Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Blackhaven) “I was hooked on the story, the destruction and desolation of it. I have to say Kyle took no prisoners at all. Like none! He had no qualms killing people and some of the deaths were shocking, so left-field it just amped up the journey I was on!”

Review by Rajivs Reviews, (Blackhaven) “Let me tell you – This book was just excellent! …Once you start reading this book, you cannot put it down!”

31st October – and it’s the final day 🙁

Review by Lyndas_bookreviews (IG), (Prey) “It’s a very well written book and as long as you are aware of, and can deal with, the content it’s a captivating read dealing with a very difficult subject. I wanted to put it down and stop reading more than once, but I couldn’t.”

Review by thickthighs_no_lies (IG), (Blackhaven) “This book is a total flash back to the 80’s! And a terrifying ride too boot! This is definitely a classic horror book with all the markers we have come to know and love!!”

Extract at Zooloo’s Book Diary, (Descent To Hell) “‘He wants to see him’, she pointed at Charlie with her index finger, ‘and Lucifer wants me to bring this imbecile to him.’ Charlie wasn’t sure what this meant for him, his instant doom?”
